Technitium MAC Address Changer allows you to change Media Access Control (MAC) Address of your Network Interface Card (NIC) irrespective to your NIC manufacturer or its driver. It has a very simple user interface and provides ample information regarding each NIC in the machine. Every NIC has a MAC address hard coded in its circuit by the manufacturer. This hard coded MAC address is used by windows drivers to access Ethernet Network (LAN). This tool can set a new MAC address to your NIC, bypassing the original hard coded MAC address. It is nice to see a useful tool undergo rapid development, particularly a free one!
Most of the updates to v5 are for Vista and the fixing of installer issues but that does not detract from the usefulness of this tool.
Thanks Technitium!
I agree bogwitch… My first technitium was V3.1 if I remember right before which I used SMAC (which became a paid software)….I think tht this software is also coded by Indians……thnx!! I’m on XP right now so I can’t say abt functionality in Vista
Was first pointed to technitium here on darknet, It’s a great tool for free. I dl’d this one right away, I’ll defiantly be running it through the tests in the lab come Monday. Thanks technitium, and big thanks Darknet, since I have started coming to this site my “testing” folder is never empty!
Tried it out in the lab today, works like it should. While I was messing with it I had a thought; If I were to flood a switch with packets containing a different mac each time, the switch would broadcast for each of them basically resulting in a DoS attack, is that right? (I’, a computer forensics student and lab tech, this is purely an academic question).
Technitium MAC Address Changer v5 Release 2 is out for Microsoft Windows 7 RC. Get it at http://tmac.technitium.com
