Metasploit Framework v3.1 Released for Download

Wasn’t the web interface kinda like a gui for the last version? Havn’t downloaded this yet but will tonight. Interested to see how the 2 compare. Seems like Metasploit is getting into ease of use, I hope it doesnt replace functionality.

UK Government Set to Make ‘Hacking Tools’ Illegal

I dont really think it should affect darknet.

UK Consumers Lose Faith in ‘Phished’ Brands

I think this goes to show how truly uneducated most people on the internet are. I agree that the companies should be doing there part to negate these phising sites but it really comes down to the end users clicking and typing.

When I was reading this it made me do one of those wide eyed head shaking double takes at the screen. I agree with you Pantagruel, there is no patch for human stupidity.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

WabiSabiLabi Pimping ClamAV Vulnerability & Exploit

Who got owned? IDK who you are exactly talking about. WABI?

» Posted By dirty On December 5, 2007 @ 4:14 pm

@Goodpeople

I concur.

@Nobody Holme
600 Euros is a lot for a chuckle

» Posted By dirty On December 4, 2007 @ 8:38 pm

Looks like they sold it…for 600 Euros. Its no longer on their auction block. Wasn’t Wabi’s purpose originally to garner support for reseachers so big software companies would acknowledge their vulnerabilities a pay up. Not in a blackmail way but as a way for sec researchers to legitimately get paid? Doesn’t look like its working out too well.

Security Software Moves to Consoles – Web Filtering for PS3

I think it is the same discussion….i dont think most users will secure their game consoles…

» Posted By dirty On December 4, 2007 @ 8:35 pm

That was my pretty much my point…my comments above just trying to reflect that end users are ultimately responsible and most are apt to not use security for ease of functionality…….

» Posted By dirty On December 3, 2007 @ 9:14 pm

IDK about the DSL modem firewall…if that secured everything we wouldn’t have such huge botnets out there.

» Posted By dirty On December 3, 2007 @ 5:16 pm

Yah I dont fore see people shelling out extra cash for those services when the consoles cost so much in the first place. The last thing a kid or parent is worrying about is security for their console…at least the average player not ones on this site.

» Posted By dirty On December 3, 2007 @ 12:48 am

All this sounds like is websense for PS3…and you have to ability to still view the site by entering your password…what sites will be blocked? how often will they be updated?

I agree with Pantagruel, I dont think this will be enough…

Apple Fixes ‘Misleading’ Leopard Firewall Settings

All in all, I like my Mac…but call a spade when you see it. Its not hack proof but you can pretend it is if that sort of thing makes you feel good inside. At least you can look cool while you’re getting owned, jk hahah

» Posted By dirty On November 26, 2007 @ 5:31 pm

You know…this is such a touchy subject with Mac users. At least the ones that bought a Mac thinking that it is 100% failsafe and came to that conclusion because other snotty Mac users told them that was true. I own an Intel Mac and multiple Win boxes, so personally I believe that the Mac is an awesome computers, however it is not completely safe from blackhats.

I like Macs but they are pretty much status symbols. Go in any coffee house in NYC, SF, LA and all the cool kids have Macs and look down upon any Windows users….

Wi-Fi Jacking Extremely Common (45% of People Do!)

Reticent:
I think I saw this poll a few weeks back…i believe it was was a UK based poll. Cant say for sure off the top of my head…

Arley:
I think there is a very small margin of unsecured access points that are run by mischievous people hoping to do all you that you listed. The gain from such would be too little in my opinion to waste your time with but there probably are a few of them out there.

‘Security Consultant’ Caught for Running Large Botnet

No, no one is required to sign anything unless they have certs like CISSP, etc.

It just paints a negative image for people in our field

CG:
Background checks will only reveal if theyve been caught before. Even NSA’s and CIA’s checks and security clearances miss some people. Think of all the spies that are found out.

» Posted By dirty On November 16, 2007 @ 8:00 pm

Just briefed some customers on this (part of job is infosec news) anyway its sad because there is already so much distrust in this line of work….it takes years of working on relationships in order to build confidence in customers and something like this can shock them so much it can destroy or hurt even the most honest sompnay/person’s reputation.

@goodpeople and nobody_holme
Stupid web users = job security

but every once in a while i do believe corporal punishment should be a valid option for them, jk

» Posted By dirty On November 19, 2007 @ 11:32 pm

Goodpeople I agree with you that this is not a “new” threat, however it seems that the implications and risk have dramatically increased

Darknet
Scary stuff! Thanks for the post…..

Thousands Hooked by Malware from Big Sites

Goodpeople Job security is nice, maybe we should mis-educate, jk

» Posted By dirty On November 9, 2007 @ 5:04 pm

fazed
Like Pantagruel said, its hard to stop kids and the computer illiterate. I know the people here would probably never fall for this type but obviously there are people that do or these type of user driven attacks wouldnt be seen

» Posted By dirty On November 8, 2007 @ 4:02 pm

I have installed firefox for my mom and siblings so now they now to use icon with the fox and world as opposed to the icon with the E (for exploit, haha). But even firefox cant save them from everything

» Posted By dirty On November 7, 2007 @ 9:58 pm

-normalsecrecy-
I couldn’t agree more…I cant believe there are actually people out there that fall for these scams…then again my younger siblings and cousins always come to me when their MySpace, etc account gets hacked and always ask “how did someone do that?”… I usually explain its them and ways around it but nevertheless someone will eventually fall for something stupid sooner or later
