LiLith is a tool written in Perl to audit web applications. This tool analyses webpages and looks for html form tags , which often refer to dynamic pages that might be subject to SQL injection or other flaws. It works as an ordinary spider and analyses pages, following hyperlinks, injecting special characters that have a special meaning to any underlying platform.

Any Web applications scanner can never perform a full 100% correct audit. Therefore, a manual re-check is necessary. Hence, be aware that Lilith might come up with several false positives.

LiLith is a program that verifies the security of a web application. As a security consultant, the author often sees web applications that contain security flaws. A web application is a complex entity and cannot be fully checked with “just any tool”, therefor I recommend you to manually verify any results.

How the entire “scanning” process works is different from so called “CGI scanners”, such as nikto and n-stealth. This program will surf to a website and crawls through all the links, just as a user would to. On any possible input field, such as text boxes, page id’s, … LiLith will attempt to inject any characters that might have a special meaning for any underlying technology such as SQL.

For more information, it is recommended to read the following white paper: web dissection using lilith.

It’s been a while since we last mentioned Skipfish, it was back in March 2010 when they first came out.

Skipfish is an active web application security reconnaissance tool. It prepares an interactive sitemap for the targeted site by carrying out a recursive crawl and dictionary-based probes. The resulting map is then annotated with the output from a number of active (but hopefully non-disruptive) security checks. The final report generated by the tool is meant to serve as a foundation for professional web application security assessments.

A number of commercial and open source tools with analogous functionality is readily available (e.g., Nikto, Websecurify, Netsparker, w3af, Arachni); stick to the one that suits you best. That said, skipfish tries to address some of the common problems associated with web security scanners.

Specific advantages include:

High speed: pure C code, highly optimized HTTP handling, minimal CPU footprint – easily achieving 2000 requests per second with responsive targets.

Ease of use: heuristics to support a variety of quirky web frameworks and mixed-technology sites, with automatic learning capabilities, on-the-fly wordlist creation, and form autocompletion.

Cutting-edge security logic: high quality, low false positive, differential security checks, capable of spotting a range of subtle flaws, including blind injection vectors.

Some users had a problem getting it running, it does have a dependency – assuming you are on a Debian based distro, all you need to do is:

apt-get install libidn11

The minum syntax required to run the tool would be:

./skipfish -o /home/youruser -W dictionaries/standard.wl http://yoursite.com

That should be enough to get you started!

It’s a pretty powerful tool and likely to pick up issues that Nessus or Nikto might miss.

You can download Skipfish 1.94b here:

Andiparos is a fork of the famous Paros Proxy. It is an open source web application security assessment tool that gives penetration testers the ability to spider websites, analyze content, intercept and modify requests, etc.

The author did ask for the original authors of Paros Proxy to integrate his changes but was rejected, hence the fork.

The advantage of Andiparos is mainly the support of Client Certificates on Smartcards. Moreover it has several small interface enhancements, making the life easier for penetration testers…

Features:

Smartcard support

History Filter (URLs)

Tag requests in history

other small enhancements…

The safety of the Internet is of paramount importance to Google, and helping web developers build secure, reliable web applications is an important part of the equation. To advance this goal, Google has released projects such as ratproxy, a passive security assessment tool.

The latest is they have announced a new tool called skipfish – a free, open source, fully automated, active web application security reconnaissance tool.

Key Features

High speed: written in pure C, with highly optimized HTTP handling and a minimal CPU footprint, the tool easily achieves 2000 requests per second with responsive targets.

Ease of use: the tool features heuristics to support a variety of quirky web frameworks and mixed-technology sites, with automatic learning capabilities, on-the-fly wordlist creation, and form autocompletion.

Cutting-edge security logic: we incorporated high quality, low false positive, differential security checks capable of spotting a range of subtle flaws, including blind injection vectors.

The tool is believed to support Linux, FreeBSD 7.0+, MacOS X, and Windows (Cygwin) environments.

You can download skipfish here:

Announcing a new web application source code analysis tool called the Securitycompass Web Application Analysis Tool or SWAAT.

You may know it as a static analysis tool.

Currently in its beta release, this .Net command-line tool searches through source code for potential vulnerabilities in the following languages:

Java and JSP

ASP.Net

PHP

Using xml-based signature files, it searches for common functions and expression which may lead to exploits. We believe that this tool will help you in your ongoing source code analysis efforts.

Please visit Security Compass to download SWAAT. Future releases of SWAAT would include plugins into popular IDEs such as Visual Studio .NET and Eclipse.

As the tool is still new, Security Compass appreciates any comments you have in functionality and desired features. Please send any feedback to swaat -at securitycompass.com.

The direct link to download SWAAT is HERE.
