Facebook Bug Leaks Birthday Data
Just like to mention… the BBC did this about 3 months back. Then they blogged it, then they loled. Then facebook said “no, actually you cant do what you said you did”, then the beeb said “fail, we just did, heres some proof” then facebook said “d’oh”. (or something like that)

January Commenter of the Month Competition Winner!
Why do i feel that it’ll be panta this month?
Anyway, as long as people keep doing stupid insecure idiocies, or coming up with new useful tools, I’ll be here.

Tempting to spam to win this next month. but no. Pantagruel, the race is on. >:)» Posted By Nobody_Holme On February 5, 2008 @ 1:20 pm
German Police Creating Law Enforcement Trojan
@mumble:
It’ll all have to be remote testing, mind.I’m tempted to go to germany with my PC, and deliberatly let them install that thing on it, just so i can complain to the embassy/mainstream press and cause an international incident.
should be fairly easy to limit when dealing with non-proffesionals… make it traceroute the target before installing itself, check where the last few hits on the traceroute are. (yes, its flawed when you deal with anyone competent, but hey, the whole thing is, so who cares)

They cant be serious…
If the UK follows suit, i’m emigrating…
Also, skype need to sue the german government/ digitask under their own law for breaking their encryption, no?I can see some international shenanigans too, say when a foreign diplomat’s computer gets compromised by a german police program (whether or not the german police put it there).

I was also talking about non-microsoft auto-updates. I’m not a fan of auto-installing brand new bugs and security flaws, i must say.
» Posted By Nobody_Holme On February 1, 2008 @ 6:15 pm
Auto update, how i love thee.
Makes everyone’s life easier.and i’m thinking no more skating for you for a couple of months.

Multilingual Worm Spreads Over MSN Messenger
Meh. if you’re competent with computers, theres no need to move to another piece of software, because you can always just /block people.

I just ignore files as a habit unless we were discussing it just before. safety FTW.

Perl.com Sends Visitors to Porn Site!
*points at the tutorial on that somewhere on here* at least, i’m pretty sure it was on here… bad guys can read this too…
I just ignore anything that tries to force me onto exploder… its in my permanent firewall block list just to make sure. So far (and i’ve been doing so for a couple of years now) i think the only site i’ve cared about was some corporate recruitment company who i’ve since found are incompetent in every way anyway, so no loss there.» Posted By Nobody_Holme On January 22, 2008 @ 3:23 pm

GFI Survey – 4 in 10 US Companies are NOT Secure!
@Ubourgeek
I hate to mention it, but most US government groups get owned on a regular basis…
If security outside is that much worse, I’m quite worried.Also, there can never be true security without a deadly lack of interaction. Its a conundrum faced by all security experts (of all times since like, the gate guards on some ancient castle, say, and that food wagon with a spy driving it).

4/10 admit it… i’m thinking its more like 9/10 really had breaches in the last 12 months… although some of them probably didnt notice.

The First Reported Facebook Worm/Malware Pops Up – Secret Crush
The applications system on facebook is a playground. I’ve seen at least 5 that throw badly written code at you when you use them… All of it seems to walk straight into firefox and die, but who knows. scrolling down to the bottom of the page and working up hitting every ignore button you come to (the real one will always be below anything the application generates) works quite well. Meh. social networking is a stupid idea… *wonders why he even uses it*

UK Government Set to Make ‘Hacking Tools’ Illegal
I’ve got to say… phrased like that? mind you, there are people out there who dont know this kind of stuff, so i guess its useful education. *frowns at durpsquat*

You think that, then you try to use such a tool while going about your daily buisness, and theres a copper investigating something else right behind you. Or the cyber-crime division are in at the same time you got called in to do your thing making people secure, and want to see how you do things. ka-boom, jail for you.
(oh, and also, crk, police > you. kthx)

Thats a point… will it affect foreign security professionals who try to enter the country? could be annoying, methinks. Maybe i’ll go poke my MP… he at least listens to people some of the time.

this sounds identical to banning sales of anything that can become an “improvised weapon”, unless its through shops and the like… well, i say sale, if the same was true for objects capable of being used in assaults, say i borrow my dad’s woodcutting axe and go cut a tree in my garden down, my dad can get 10 years for passing it over, and theres no way to defend against it in court, bar that i didnt intend to use it to carry out an assault… which i’m sure a good lawyer could make sound like a lie.
my opinion of british MPs just went down EVEN further, and i didnt think that was possible.» Posted By Nobody_Holme On January 11, 2008 @ 12:05 pm
