@fak3r
feel like helping me set up a propper
web host some time?
I used to host all my apps from home
with a custom made, python based web server.
I didn't feel like paying for a static IP so I made
the server regulaly update my DNS with my new IP.

bookmarklets are a great resource. the gnucitizen technika firefox add-on has support for saving/modifying bookmarklets, and the new version (1.3) also has support for command-line scripting, sharing scripts, and paths.

you'll also want to check out rsnake's security bookmarklets, bmlets, blummy, bookmarklets every blogger should have and these firefox add-ons: flat bookmark editing and openbook / update bookmark

I used to host at home in the UK with a static IP, but trust me in Malaysia with the quality of the ISP's here, it's not even an option.

I'll most likely get a VPS and sort it out (will have root access on it anyway).

Cheers!

>>Heard about the recent server crash, and I also fell a bit alerted
>>by this incident, because I as the web hosting providers don’t do
>>regular backup

This is why I refuse to have any of my sites hosted by some huge web host; you can't be 100% certain what's going on, plus with everyone running PHP stuff, more stuff is open on the server than should be. See Gadi Evron's talk at Defcon this year for the above concerns, coupled with the massive botnets out there that 'your' server could be part of. http://taosecurity.blogspot.com/2006/08/gadi-evron-on-botnet-command-and.html

Yes, hosting at home is a PITA at times (right now I pay more for a static IP, while getting less bandwidth) but in the long run it's the only way I feel I'm doing things 'right'. I have things locked down my way with Routers/Firewalls separate from the server. Ran FreeBSD for years, now back on Linux for my server, in love with the stability and security of a stripped down Debian Etch install and find more ways to security it almost daily.

Anyway, great site, I'm reading it more and more - keep it up! (posting to the site and securing it ;))
