Hi

Have downloaded Cain & Abel and went through the install process, however the executable files don't appear to extract, and no errors appear.
Any ideas what maybe causing this.

Thanks in advance

Forget that last post,
I just tested it and it doesn't do anything near what I thought. Xcluding your file like that doesn't xclude it from the check up but from the entire file-system, in other words, your file stops existing.

Best I can say, turn of your sym AV while downloading and installing C&A then turn it back on when your finished.

probably, I'm not a specialist on AVs but I havent yet found a way to xclude just this type of file.

You can xclude specific extensions, but we dont want to xclude all .exe files...

Then I found you can xclude specific files from the system check up. In the symantec UI, go to configue, then system file - auto-protect, in the Options section, click on Exclude selected File/Folder, then click on Exclusions and select the C&A install file.

Now, I haven't personnaly tested it caus i'm short on time this morning, but If it works i'll tell you guys.

I know some AVs will detect key generators as viruses/spyware so C&A could be one of the programs on that list. Is there a way to disable the alerts for this specific file?

Symantec AV detects the file as being infected, just so you know.
it's probably too sensitive, but to does who have symantec, it wont let you download it.

Cain and Abel is still available. For some reason the download on the site doesn't work for me so I just google "Cain and Abel download" and sites like softpedia offer a working .exe download of the newest version of the program.

For all those non-windows users, ettercap and wireshark (maybe kismet) are good alternatives.

Really, I am fine with that. Anything that is not point-and-click helps me to deepen my understanding of the technology.
